Ulysses Grant was a very important Civil War leader. He was very important to the Civil War battles. Some of Grants victories were at Fort Henry, Donneson, Vicksburg (Mississippi River) This strategy cut the Confederacy in to two. He also gained control of Chattanooga , Tennessee. His goal with all of these battles was to pin down the Confederate . General Robert E. Lee and the control of the Confederate capitol. But in 1865, Lee surrendered at Appomattox court house. Grant made sure Lee would not be tried for treason.
