While Grant was trying to capture Richmond in the North, he sent William Tecumseh Sherman to clear the South. While Confederates ran, Sherman wiped out everything in his path. 100,000troops took Atlanta in 1864 and burnt half the city to the ground. They continued towards savannah on the coast of the Atlantic. Sherman's March was a Union Victory
