Robert E. Lee didn't like the idea of secession for his home state of Virginia. However he declined President Lincoln's offer to become the Union General . He said "my allegiance is with my home state." Lee was a respectable man and admired by his men. He had several great victories. One of his most remember-able battles is Seven days battle, Second Battle of Bull Run, Battle of Fredricksburg and and Chancellorsville. He had a terrible loss at the Battle of Gettysburg. His final surrender was at Appomattox Court House in the Confederate capitol of Richmond, Va.
